Biography:
Born in Bucharest. He completed his studies between 1964-70 at the Nicolae Grigorescu Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, subsequently was an assistant there at the Graphic Design and Printmaking Department. From 1983 he did the graphic illustration for the last volumes of Nichita Stanescu ('Epica Magna', 'Imperfect Creations', 'Nodes and Signs'), which received significant awards abroad as well. Was awarded the Peter Ludwig Foundation Prize in 1989. In the early nineties was a member of the Social Dialogue Group, in 1990 a founding member of the Civic Association. Publishing in various dailies and periodicals since 1990. In 1992 established the Anastasia Foundation, which alongside its publishing activity, focuses on the production of video-documentation, as well as the organization of exhibitions in the experimental contemporary art gallery of the Romanian National Art Museum, the Catacombs. Has had numerous solo shows since 1976, as well as participating in group shows, a selection of which follows: 'Japan and Eastern Europe' (Modern Art Museum, Osaka, 1981); XII. Youth Biennial (Paris, 1982); 'May Salon' (with George Apostu, Paris, 1983); 'Picture Gallery and Epipeda Gallery' (Athens, 1984); 'Six Romanian Artists' (Narrow Water Gallery, Ireland, 1990); 'Una Bizanzio Latina' (Bramante Gallery, Rome, 1999). In 1994, on the invitation of the Kiscelli Museum and the Mayor's Office of Budapest, he performed the action entitled 'Pas d'accord avec Zeffirelli', within the framework of the Budapest Autumn Festival. He was the curator of the 'Romanian Contemporary Art' exhibition organized in the Kunsthalle Budapest, 1998. Member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences since 2006. In 2008, he received the Cross of the Royal House of Romania. (2011)
