Description:
The basic idea of Sculptures is as follows. Each virtual sculpture that is part of the work is a time-crystal: it is the bearer of a one or two second video record of my movement. The sequences of the video record do not follow one another in the usual way used by film or video techniques, i.e., at one twenty-fourth or one twenty-fifth of a second; rather, they replace one another in space, one in front of the other. These two-dimensional movement sequences – as the skeleton of a ship – support the three-dimensional surface stretched upon them: this is the sculptures’ coating. In this way, the sculpture surfaces become the three-dimensional imprint of the movement, quite similar to the sculptures of certain Italian Futurists. These sculptures float in space like so many frozen fragments of time. Nine such sculptures are featured in the work. But there is also a tenth protagonist: the virtual camera that presents the sculptures to the spectator. (...) (T.W.)
