Biography:
He is Professor of the History of Modern Art at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy. Was previously Professor of the History of Art Criticism at the Universities of Milan, Genova and Naples. Specialist in the relationship between Art and Science during the Italian Renaissance, an interest that has led to numerous studies in the problem of Perspective. This has laid the groundwork for the critical edition of Piero della Francesca's theoretical treatises. Dalai Emiliani is also interested in the issue of artistic production and productivity ( 'Emilio Longoni e il Divisionismo', Milan, 1983), in contemporary movements ('Tancredi. 1927-1964', Catalogo ragionato dell'opera dipinta, Turin, 1994) and in 19th century criticism ('Giovanni Morelli e la cultura dei conoscitori', ed., Bergamo, 1993). A continuing intellectual and practical concern has been the redefinition of the historical and contemporary problems involved in the conservation of artifacts and monuments ('Le pietre dello scandalo', ed., Turin, 1980 and 'Il museo e l'arte contemporanea', Milano, 1981; 'Musei della ricostruzione, tra disfatta e rivincita della storia', Carlo Scarpa a Castelvecchio, Verona - Milan, 1984).
