By the web's appearance and rapid diffusion, the previous, basically sequential "information registration" -- mass-writing has been transformed into a non-sequential process, and not only hypertext, but hypermedia, has come into being. Here it would be misleading to use the classical metaphor, according to which, the web is a single giant book (or rather, an encyclopaedia). Therefore, we need not merely a single new metaphor, but a completely new metaphor-system. (Z.G.)
