Description:
[His works] are primarily extracts and summaries. At times the presentation of some artistic problem has a pedagogical meaning, yet one senses a moonlit-starlit dawn, rare poetry that shines through in Frigyes Kőnig’s art. The hardest thing to define, of course, is from whence this poetry draws its mystic strength. Though we may not know the sources, the hidden threads can be sensed to some extent. We can only approach with extreme caution, practically timorously, the relationship that exists between the works of Kőnig and the games of Dr. Faustus, or the 16th century Italian Mannerist painters’ philosophic drawings and schemes, or the science of alchemists, or the poetry of the young Goethe. We are not talking about historic periods or styles, but rather about the secret alchemy of objects that interfuses the essential elements of the world, uniting their opposites. In this sense, Kőnig is truly the disciple of old masters. (...) (Márta Kovalovszky)
