Biography:
Alena Williams studied art history at Harvard University (Bachelor of Arts), art history and archeology at Columbia University in New York and obtained a Master of Arts in 2004 and a Master of Philosophy in 2006. Her research areas include film and media history and theory, modern and contemporary art, rhetoric of visual culture, theories of modernity, and the epistemology of the image. From 2003 to 2007 Williams was a teaching assistant in the Department of Art History and Archeology, Columbia University. Williams is the curator of Nancy Holt: Sightlines, an international traveling exhibition on American artist Nancy Holt’s Land art, films, videos, and related works from 1966–80 for the Miriam and Ira D.
