Biography:
Born in Domont. He is a neuroscientist.
He received his BA degree (1956) and his MA degree(1958) at the École Normale Supérieure. He began his scientific career identifying a new genius of parasitic Copepod. He doctorated in 1964. He pursued postdoctoral studies at the University of California Berkeley (1965/66) and also at the Columbia University College of Physicians. He has been Professor at the Collége de France, chair of Cell Communications (1975/2006). He is a full member of Institut de France and a honorary member of Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is known for his research in several fields of biology, from the structure and function of proteins (with a focus on the allosteric proteins), to the early development of the nervous system up to cognitive functions. His latest publication: 'Du vrai, du beau, du bien: Une nouvelle approche neuronale' (2008).
