Biography:
Lives and works in New York. He graduated at the Brown University in modern culture and media (B.A., 1996) and he pursued Ph.D. studies at the Literature Program of the Duke University (2001). He was a founding member of the software collective RSG and creator of the 'Carnivore and Kriegspiel' projects. He has been a member of the Program in Visual Culture of New York University (NYU) and an affiliated faculty member of the Department of Comparative Literature of the NYU. Currently he teaches at NYU. His interests include: critical theory, semiotics, aesthetics, digital media, networks, software, new media art, games, and film. His main publications are: 'Gaming: Essays on Algorithmic Culture' (Minnesota, 2006) and 'The Exploit: A Theory of Networks' (with Eugene Thacker, Minnesota, 2007). Galloway is currently working on two research projects. The first is an archeology of computational media focusing on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
