Biography:
Born in Hannover. Currently he is a freelance author for film and television, daily and weekly newspapers and professional periodicals. His main activities are: film history, literary criticism and criticism of modern media. He studied Drama, German Philology and Art History in Munich and at the Free University in Berlin then he took his doctorate 1964. He was the Program Chief and Dramatic Advisor of the television Heissischer Rundfunk and editor of 'Spiegel' 1968. He was a lecturer at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (1972/76). His publications are o.a.: ’Die UFA Story’ (Munich, 1992, French and American editions 1994 and 1996; the Best Foreign Film Book Award of the French film critics), ’Lob des Fernsehens’ (Munich, Hanser, 1995) , 'Prekäre Moderne' (Marburg/Lahn, Schüren, 2008) and ’Traum und Exzess. Die Kulturgeschichte des frühen Kinos’ (Munich/Wien, Hanser/Zsolnay, 2011). (2011)
