Biography:
He is a writer, producer and Chairman of The Illuminations Group, a close association of three independent production companies creating innovative and distinctive television, films, multimedia and convergent media. Wyver was co-founder (with Geoff Dunlop) of Illuminations Television in 1982, and with the company he has produced numerous programmes, most especially about the arts and about digital media. He has been Series Editor of the BBC2 magazine strand about digital culture The Net (1994/98), and also Series Editor of the strand of contemporary cultural documentaries Tx (BBC2, 1995/99). He has written and lectured extensively about television and new media technologies. He is the author of The Moving Image: An International History of Film, Television and Video (Blackwell/BFI Publishing, 1990) and Vision On: Film, Television and the Arts in Britain (Wallflower, 2007). From 1977 to 1981 he was Television Editor of Time Out, and his writings have been published in The Guardian and The Independent, Wired, Sight & Sound, The Listener, Art Monthly and Screen. In 1995 John Wyver curated the Third ICA Biennial of the Moving Image, What You See is What You Get. He has been a member of both the Film, Video and Broadcasting and New Collaborations panels at the Arts Council and he is a Trustee of The Photographers' Gallery, London.In 1999 he was appointed Visiting Professor in the School of History of Art, Film and Visual Media at Birkbeck College, University of London.
