Biography:
Born in Kennet, Missouri. He received a Master of Science in Visual Studies from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Cambridge in 1985, and the Siemens Stipendium, at ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst- und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe) in 1994. From 1992-1995 he taught at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales 1992 and currently he is Professor at University of Maryland - Baltimore County (USA). He has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals around the globe and has received many awards, such as Prix Ars Electronica for interactive art, 1992 and the international Media Art Award of Zentrum für Kunst- und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe, 1995. His works are to be found in numerous private and public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Mediamuseum in Karlsruhe. „His work explores an expanded media-oriented poetics he calls Recombinant Poetics. He is exploring Recombinant Poetics and Neosentience Research with Otto Rössler. Rössler, theoretical biologist and physicist, and Seaman, artist-researcher, have been examining the potential of generating an intelligent, embodied, multi-modal sensing, and computational robotic system. His research in part focuses on Neosentience (Forthcoming book with Otto Rössler, Intellect Press), a potentially new branch of scientific and poetic inquiry related to artificial intelligence.” (http://billseaman.com/) (2011)
