Biography:
Born in Linz. He lives and works in Chicago. He creates performances and environments. He graduated in architecture and visual media design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Firstly he built surreal machine-objects then turned to video, computer animation and sound. Between 1992 and 2003 he worked collaboratively as one half of the duo Granular-Synthesis. His current solo work further researches the nature of human perception and the accelerated impact of new technologies on both individual and collective consciousness. The immersive nature of his work reflects on the metaphor of the sublime and the human condition. He is a recipient of numerous prizes and large-scale commissions. He has represented Austria at the 2001 Venice Biennial. Selected presentations include the National Art Museum of China, Beijing; Staedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; In the Anchorage - Creative Time, Inc., New York and Ars Electronica Festival Linz.
