Biography:
Formerly Professor of History and Theory of Art at the University of St. Andrews, Proffesor at the British Academy Wolfson Research (1993-98) and currently he is Professor Emeritus of History of Art at the University of Oxford. He is the author of the book 'Leonardo da Vinci. The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man' (1981, winner of the Mitchell Prize). His further writings: "The Science of Art. Optical Themes in Western Art from Brunelleschi to Seurat" (1990), "Behind the Picture" (1997, winner of the President Prize of the Italian Association of America), and 'Imagine e Verita' (1999). He is currently writing a regular column in 'Nature' on art, science, image and culture.
