Biography:
Born in Prague. Philosopher, media theorist.
He started to study philosophy at the Juridical Faculty of the Charles University in Prague (1938) then emigrated to London to continue his studies for one term at the London School of Economics and Political Science (1939). In the following year he emigrated to Brazil and has been living both in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. He worked at a czech import/export company and then at Stabivolt, a manufacturer of radios and transistors and taught philosophy and functioned as a journalist. He started to collaborate with the Brazilian Institute for Philosophy (IBF) in Sao Paulo (1960). During the 60's he published and taught at several schools in Sao Paulo. His first book 'Language and Reality' was published 1963. After leaving Brazil (1972) he lived in both Germany and the South of France. To the end of his life, he was quite active writing and giving significant lectures around media theory ('Towards a Philosophy of Photography', 1983). He died in the year of 1991 in a car accident, while visiting his native Prague to give a lecture.
