Description:
Name Written on the Water, subtitled Hydrography, is a piece of the series in which I employ phenomena of physics or chemistry to "draw" in my place, to "paint a picture"; thus, the experiment itself, the reaction, can be considered the medium. Here, the oscillating motor compels waves of interference to draw upon the quicksilver-like liquid, which is, in fact, water with metallic dust on its surface. By modifying the frequency of oscillations, we can produce divergent waves in the two basins. When the oscillations abate, the film-like membrane of the aluminium dust "remembers" the drawing for some time after
The installed motors are unfortunately not capable of sustaining continuous operation, and thus I have recorded the manifestation on video. The documentation, and its relationship to the immortalised object, has become the model of the medium of the medium as a result. (Gy.J.)
