Description:
The original meaning of "Mauerläufer" is "rock-climbing wall-creeper". Another meaning, Wall-Runner, refers to the American John Runner, who in 1986 climbed on a ladder of his own making to the top of the Berlin Wall and then began to batter it down. The "woodpeckers" (Mauerspechte) of the period after the fall of the Wall also consider him their spiritual father, as the man working with a chisel at the end of the picture sequence of the video suggests. Prior to this, in front of the Wall covered with graffiti and inscriptions, haunting figures climb, flee, walk, and occasionally manage to cross the Wall like phantoms. (Evelin Páll)
