Description:
The video work was inspired by a peepshow of one of Rembrandt's pupils, Samuel von Hooghstraten. Originally in order to achieve an effect of spatial illusion, pictures with exaggerated perspectives were used in these boxes. Later cut-out coulisse images were placed at varying depths in order to create a genuine impression of space. The video, by breaking the two dimensional pictures into planes and applying the rules of central perspective, invites us to stroll through a world that uncovers yet paradoxically also confirms the illusions.
