Description:
The video documentary, which won a Golden Gate award in the category of best historical documentary, examines the significance of television in the events in Eastern Europe and China in 1989. We hear Hungarian television news presenters admit that the first time they had a chance to tell the truth to their viewers was in 1989. The commentary of György Aczél, who played a leading role in the cultural-political face of the Kádár-regime, accompanies the various segments. The film calls attention to the role of the flaws and defects in the images visible in the television broadcasts of the Romanian revolution and the influence these flaws had on meaning. All the while Gusztáv Hámos's grandmother is occupied with various everyday tasks, as someone who for decades was informed of the political and economic events through the broadcasts of the Evening News.
