Biography:
His professorial inaugural was held at the Academy of Arts in Berlin and was concentrating on archeology of media and variantology. Afterwords he became the director and teacher of the research program Variantology at the same Academy. He has published numerous books about the history, theory and practice of motion-picture. After studying theater, philology, philosophy, linguistics and political science at the Free University of Marburg and the Technical University of Berlin, he acquired his M.A in 1979, his Ph. D. in 1985 and the B. Ed. degree in 1989. In the 1980s he was media specialist at the Technical University of Berlin. He became professor of audiovisual studies at the University of Salzburg, between 1990-93 he founded the Audiovisual Department, doing research, theoretical and practical activity. He is founding Principal of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (1994/2000). He has create film and video works, projects and installations, also he organizes exhibitions since 1979. His major films are: Responses to Holocaust in Western Germany (1979) and a series of 20 short-films about archeology of audiovisuality in co-production with Alois Pluschkowitz (1989). (2011)
