Biography:
Born in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy de Dôme) as emigrant child of Hungarian parents. Lives in Mont-Saint-Aignan. He spent his first years in Mexico then completed his studies in Hungarian and French at the Loránd Eötvös University of Sciences in Budapest (1958-63), followed by a doctorate in "Fin de siècle" Literature (1969). He was the Head of Research at the Institute for Literary Research at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1972/79) while his thesis "On the Notion of Historical Style" was banned (1978). He emigrated for political reasons in 1979. He was an Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Siegen (1979-82) then making his Habilitation with the same thesis (which had been censored in Hungary) in 1983. He was Associate Professor of German Literature at the University of Nancy II (1983/85) and he entered the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique as Head of Research from 1985 until he retired. He became a French national in 1989. He has been extensively published, with many of his books and articles focusing on Rilke. Pór's primary areas of research concern the development of the modern lyric from Baudelaire to the avantgarde and within this he has dealt in detail with the literature and art of the turn of the century; he is occupied with general style theory; the major portion of his most recent publications is devoted to the analysis of the oeuvres of Apollinaire and Rilke.
