Description:
The basic idea of the stroboscope along the Boulevard is that here it is the spectator who moves while the picture stands still. Its fragments are placed on the advertising pillars of the Boulevard. At first I thought it would be best if the entire Boulevard was situated between the parts of one large picture, in the breaks, which would be the "break-sign" of the picture. In the next step the picture was realized as a one-color surface, the parts of which are seen from the moving tram. I planned to record it on film and videotape, and then to eliminate more and more from the middle space of the Boulevard by animation, until the one-color surface became an empty space, like a "still ". In the end I was allowed to place golden stripes on nine pillars. The Boulevard did not become an abstract still, and the film turned out to be a documentary, both for social and technical reasons, of course. (...) (R.E-H.)
